Andhra's dominant performance against Meghalaya in the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy was a testament to their all-round strength. The match, held in Mumbai, saw Andhra cruising to a comprehensive 10-wicket victory, their fourth win of the season.
Batting first after losing the toss, Meghalaya posted a total of 223 runs in 48.2 overs. Their top scorers were opener Nishanta Chakravarthy, who scored a solid century (101 off 108 balls), and Arpit, who contributed with a half-century (66 off 90 balls). However, Meghalaya's promising position at 182/1 quickly crumbled as Andhra's bowlers delivered a remarkable comeback. Yarra Sandeep led the charge with a stunning , claiming 5 wickets for just 28 runs. Anjaneyulu and Maheep Kumar also played vital roles, taking two wickets each to bowl out Meghalaya for 223.
Chasing the target of 224, Andhra's openers, captain KS Bharat and Ashwin Hebbar, were in sublime form. KS Bharat scored an explosive 107 not out from 81 balls, hitting 9 fours and 7 sixes, while Hebbar scored 108 not out from 96 balls, including 13 fours and 1 six. Together, they guided Andhra to a flawless victory, reaching 228/0 in just 29.3 overs.
Sandeep's exceptional bowling performance earned him the 'Player of the Match' award, and the victory took Andhra to second place in Group B with 16 points from 5 matches (4 wins and 1 loss). Their next match is against Maharashtra on Friday.
